Don’t miss an opportunity to join IWU alumnus Sean Hantak ’98. Sean has had a 17 year career with the State Department and will join us virtually from his current post in Slovenia.

Some information about our presenter…
Sean Hantak graduated from IWU in 1998 with a double major in International Studies and Spanish, and a minor in Economics. He studied abroad in Madrid, Spain his Junior year abroad. Sean Hantak is a career Foreign Service Officer with the Department of State. He is currently serving as the Management Officer for the U.S. Embassy in Ljubljana. Mr. Hantak is originally from Chicago, IL, having entered the U.S. Diplomatic Corps via the private sector in 2005. Prior to his current tour in Slovenia, he served in Sarajevo in the U.S. Embassy to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Some of his prior overseas assignments include Sofia, Bulgaria; São Paulo, Brazil; Tunis and Mexico City. Mr. Hantak has served as a Management, Financial, Human Resources, Refugee Program and Economic Officer throughout his assignments with the Department of State. His next assignment will take him to Baghdad, Iraq, where he will serve as the Director of the Diplomatic Support Center. He enjoys the challenges of learning foreign languages – having dabbled in over a dozen to date.

¡Qué charla más intrigante e informativa! Sean explicó su trayectoria desde IWU a trabajos internacionales en el sector privado hasta aprobar los exámenes del dpto. de servicio diplomático y sus varios puestos en esta rama del gobierno. Actualmente está trabajando en Liubliana, Slovenia y antes de este periodo de servicio, ha vivido en Alemania, Bulgaria, Brasil, Tunisia y México. Además ha viajado a varios otros países en Africa, Europa y las Américas.
Sean nos contó que ha aprendido 12 idiomas y que el trabajo con los refugiados intentando establecerse en USA ha sido de lo más gratificante.
Algunos consejos de Sean para estudiantes hoy: Sé curioso, intenta nuevas cosas y aprovecha de todo lo que tienes aquí en IWU.
