Thank You 2015 Donors!

THANK YOU to all of our fiscal year 2015 donors! Illinois Wesleyan University‘s alumni participation rate has increased for the third year in a row thanks to the generosity of donors like you! Your support helps to ensure IWU is stronger and more affordable for current and future generations of Titans. You’ve done well, and you’ve done good! Go Titans!

The class of 2004 topped 30% participation!  At least eight young alumni challenges were met in 2015, resulting in $20,000 of additional scholarship support for IWU students!

Classmate Update: Katherine Meister Cheng (04)

Katherine (Katie) Meister Cheng ’04 is a dentist in the US Navy and is stationed in Okinawa. She and her husband Jerry have a daughter, Julia, who was born in December of 2013.
UPDATE! Katie reached out to us and provided the following news:
After graduating IWU in 2004, Katie received her degree from University of Illinois at Chicago-College of Dentistry in 2008, and later, from the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda, MD in 2013.  She was recently awarded Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry.  According to a press release:
“The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) is pleased to announce that Katherine L. Cheng, DDS, MS, FAGD, of Springfield, IL, received the association’s Fellowship Award during the AGD 2015 annual meeting, which took place June 18 to 21 in San Francisco.

The AGD Fellowship Award is presented to dentists who seek to provide the highest quality dental care by remaining current in their profession. To earn this prestigious honor, Dr. Cheng completed 500 hours of dental continuing education, passed a comprehensive written exam, and fulfilled three years of continuous membership in the AGD.

‘We are proud to honor Dr. Cheng for her commitment in reaching this lofty goal,” says AGD Immediate Past President W. Carter Brown, DMD, FAGD. “She has distinguished herself professionally among her peers and is a role model for both her fellow dentists and the Navy Dental Corps community.'”

Katie and her husband are both serving on Active Duty in the United States Navy Dental Corps.  “We are currently assigned to 3rd Dental Battalion in Okinawa, Japan. I hold the rank of Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) and my husband, Dr. Jerry Cheng (not an IWU alum), is a Lieutenant (LT). ”

Thanks for the update, Katie! We look forward to continued updates!

Let’s Reach 30% Giving for the Class of 2004!

Young Alumni Challenge:  If our class reaches 30% participation, two gifts of $2,500 (for a total of $5,000) will be made in honor of our class. Let’s move the Tommymometer to the top!

Without alumni support, IWU simply wouldn’t be the same.  Time is running out to make a difference this fiscal year.  Help to keep IWU moving forward and show your Titan Pride by making a gift before this Friday, July 31!

Career Developments for Bethany (04) and Brian Wasik (04)

Bethany and Brian Wasik are making major strides in their careers.

Bethany (’04) completed a postdoctoral fellowship in May and accepted an acquisitions assistant position at Cornell University Press in pursuit of an editorial career in academic scholarship.

Meanwhile, Brian (also ’04) is continuing his work as a postdoctoral associate researching influenza virus and host evolution in the Parrish lab, in affiliation with the Baker Institute for Animal Health at Cornell University.

Congratulations to them both!

What is the Tommymomter Reading Today?

Check out the latest status on the Tommymometer to see where we stand on IWU donors by clicking here.

By making your gift before July 31, you will not only add to the Tommymometer for alumni donors, but you will help to keep current Illinois Wesleyan students enrolled and our alma mater strong. The percentage of alumni donors is important to IWU because outside organizations view it as a metric to measure alumni satisfaction. It affects Illinois Wesleyan’s rankings, bond rating, and ability to earn grants.

Thank you for doing your part to fill the Tommymometer before July 31 and keep Illinois Wesleyan moving forward!

If you have already made a gift this year, thank you!
