Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Orchestra Members to Perform Music by Lisa Renee Ragsdale ’72

On Monday, July 23, 2018, four members of the Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) will be performing two string trios by Lisa Renee Ragsdale ’72, as well as two other contemporary string quartets by two other composers. Lisa wrote the first piece in 2013 and the second in 2017. Both compositions feature themes that support the science behind climate change. The event begins at 7 PM with a discussion about climate change by Barry N. Rock, Professor Emeritus, Department of Natural Resources and the Environment. After this, members of the Orchestra will perform a String Quartet by Joel Love followed directly with two new String Trios by Lisa Renee Ragsdale. The final work will be a Quartet by David Balakrishnan; his “Tree of Life” Quartet. The event ends at 10 PM. More information can be found at “Portsmouth, NH Events”.

Congratulations, Lisa!

All In for Wesleyan April 2018

Class of 1972

Tuesday, April 3rd is our day of giving at Illinois Wesleyan and this year’s theme is
Think Bigger!
Not only is April 3rd a day for giving, it’s a day to celebrate IWU and everything that makes it special.
Last year, our class had six donors, and our total raised was $925. Let’s try for ten contributors this year. Our class goal is $1,050. For comparison, the class of 1971 had ten donors last year, and their gifts totaled $10,250. Are you all in for Wesleyan this year?

Please encourage your classmates to join you in being #AllInForWesleyan

Help spread the word using #AllInForWesleyan and take advantage of our social media toolkit.

I’d like to echo Steve’s  comments. This time of year, most of us are deluged with appeals from worthy causes. In addition, many of us volunteer with nonprofit organizations that play vital roles in our local communities. But a gift to Illinois Wesleyan is different, because higher education is different–it’s an investment in the future of our greater society and our global community. Strong alumni support sends a personal message to today’s students who are walking the same pathways you did. Please consider a gift to IWU as part of your year-end giving plans.

Homecoming 2017 Report

Alumni came from near and far, converging on the IWU campus on a beautiful fall weekend. They attended a reception at the president’s house; visited with friends; walked around campus; went to the [winning] football game; toured classrooms, labs, the theatre, nursing school, and library; hung out in the Dugout; and drove around Bloomington. A group of AOPi alums had lunch at their former sorority house, now a refurbished duplex. Many alumni participated in official reunion year dinners and events; others just enjoyed getting together informally and catching up. Here are a few photos.

Feel free to comment and share your own photos from Homecoming 2017.

Homecoming 2017 Update

As IWU celebrates “Titans Around the World” this Homecoming weekend, we will also honor our alumni who served worldwide as veterans and first-responders, including Captain Ryan A. Beaupre ’95. We will remember Ryan and all veterans and first-responders who have given their lives in the service of others and our country. Presenting the colors will be American Legion Color Guard Post 635 Normal and Post 56 from Bloomington. This will take place at Tucci Stadium prior to the football game (10/14). The ceremony will also include the National Anthem sung by Wayne Messmer ’72. Classmates  and friends can view the ceremony on streaming video live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/iwu/

Homecoming Weekend Coming up Soon!

There is less than a month until Homecoming Weekend! While counting down the days until we are back on campus, it might be fun to reminisce about the time we spent at IWU. I have fond memories of walking around campus and hanging out on the Quad on warm fall afternoons. Would you like to share a favorite IWU memory? Even if you can’t to make it to Bloomington for Homecoming Weekend, please feel free to share a memory or add a comment below.

If you are still deciding on which events to attend during Homecoming Weekend, the International RSO Fair is highly recommended. It will be on Saturday (10/14) at the Hansen Student Center, Center Court from 11 am – 1 pm. Come learn more about our multicultural registered student organizations (RSOs) and enjoy activities and musical performances. A light lunch will be provided, so please register either online or by phone by 10/8. For more details, visit the Homecoming Facebook page or the International RSO Fair Facebook event.

Homecoming Countdown!

It’s less than two months until the 45th Reunion of the Class of 1972. I hope you are planning to attend. The campus should be beautiful in October. If, like many of us, you have not been back to campus for years, you can print out a handy map from the website. Check out the schedule of Homecoming weekend events, dig out some Titan green attire, and make plans to come to Wesleyan October 13-15.

Fall colors and Holmes and Shaw Halls.
