Matthew Roberts ’01 Helps Respond to NYC COVID-19 Outbreak

matthew-robertsMatthew has been preparing for and responding to public health emergencies for more than 15 years. Currently the assistant vice president for Medicaid State Healthcare Assessment of IPRO, a nonprofit organization in New York City, Roberts and his colleagues are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in the epicenter of the U.S. coronavirus outbreak.

Amanda Wilkinson ’12 Sews and Donates Washable Face Masks

Amanda, a costuming business owner, uses the foundational
skills she learned in the IWU amanda- wilkinsoncostume shop to sew and donate washable face masks to hospitals and others in need. She says, “The passion I discovered while building costumes for SOTA’s theatre production inspires every piece that I make. I like to think that there is a little piece of IWU in each of the masks that I deliver to my local hospitals.”

Amanda has made over 100 masks thus far.

Sharon Chung ’00 Plays Violin for Neighborhood to Enjoy

Sharon is a professional classical musician and private instructor. Since the pandemic, many of her concerts have been canceled; however, she still finds a way to bring joy to her neighborhood by playing her violin outside daily. Sharon also still holds online music lessons for her students through virtual platforms.

Herb ’03 and Erin Zerth ’03 serve the community during COVID-19

Herb is an emergency medicine physician, and Erin wanted to find a way to assist individuals like her husband who are working tirelessly to assist others. Thus the Chicago Area COVID-19 Front Line Hero Meal Trains program was born. The program arranges times for meals to be delivered to hospitals. Strict rules on delivery and packaging are in place and help is enlisted from local restaurants.

Neil ’96 and Amy Rubenstein Bring Joy to Neighborhood Kids

Neil ’96 and Amy Rubenstein bring joy to their neighborhood by organizing childhood character appearances. The couple, who used to own a creative celebrations party company, have many costumes to choose from.

The Rubensteins are thankful they have a found a way to spread happiness during these times.
