Historical Photographs of Illinois Wesleyan University

mages in this collection are from photographs located in the University Archives and illustrate some of the growth and changes to Illinois Wesleyan University since its founding in 1850. These primary sources reflect the attitudes, perspectives, and beliefs of different times and should be considered records of the era in which they were produced.

Background information for many of the photographs (approximate dates, people’s names, etc.) is missing.  We would appreciate hearing from you if you have comments about them; please contact us at archives@titan.iwu.edu

MM jr. Honors Collection

Minor Myers jr Honors Collection

As intended from the initial stages of planning, the Bates & Merwin Reading Room, the crown jewel of The Ames Library located on the fourth floor, houses a truly distinctive collection. Minor Myers jr., Illinois Wesleyan University’s 17th president, provided the vision and leadership necessary to build The Ames Library. To pay tribute to President Myers’ dedication to Illinois Wesleyan University and his love for books, this growing collection comprises books that received honors throughout the world and includes award-winning books in the areas of art, cooking, fiction, history, poetry, science, among many others. Books from the Minor Myers jr. Honors Collection may be checked out from the library by all patrons for the standard 28-day loan period, with the option of one renewal period.

To donate funds to The Minor Myers jr. Honors Collection please contact the Illinois Wesleyan Development Office at 309-556-3091. Due to the selective nature of the collection we will not be able to accept gifts in the form of books. For any other questions regarding this collection, please contact Bob Delvin, Fine Arts Librarian, at 556-3003 or email at bdelvin@iwu.edu.

Netfix for Faculty

Netflix Faculty Pilot Program – Spring 2008

The Ames Library is offering a pilot program to provide  faculty access to Netflix, a movie rental service. Using Netflix will allow you access to their extensive collection of over 90,000 titles.

This program is designed for instructional purposes only and is not intended for recreational or home use. It may be very useful to find a film that is not available through our library catalog or to preview a title.  Please be sure to check availability in the IWU catalog before ordering a title.

How it works:

* Find a video on Netflix. You may either browse or search for a specific title.* Check IWU catalog for availability.

* If not available, fill in the request form.  Allow at least one week for delivery and processing.

* When the DVD arrives, you will receive an email from us. The DVD will be checked out to you for 7 days and may be picked up at the Thorpe Digital Center. If not picked up in three business days the video will be returned to Netflix.

* We have a limited amount of films that we can borrow at any given time so prompt return of the DVD is crucial. One 7-day renewal is allowed.

Additional Information

* DVD’s cannot be placed on reserve.* If a DVD is lost or not returned within 15 days, you will be billed a $50 lost fee
