Robby Easton ’04

Robby Easton, age 32 of Mattoon, passed away unexpectedly in North Carolina on Thursday, November 27, 2014. Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, December 7, 2014 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating his life will be held at the funeral chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 8, 2014 with Pastor Ivan Jess officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston.  More infomation can be found here.

Alumni award winners, Kyle Pfortmiller ’92, Sean Parsons ’01 and Kris Condon ‘84 gave heartfelt tributes to faculty mentors and their alma mater at the Oct. 18 Homecoming luncheon where they were honored. Those speeches can be viewed here.

Thank you for reading and contributing to your class newsletter.  I hope you enjoy receiving news about your classmates.  Be sure to let us know when you have news to share!

Homecoming is October 17-19.  Class years ending in 4 and 9 are reunion years.  Our theme this year is Off the Charts. We are focusing on the 150th Anniversary of the School of Music, with many music themed events.  Join us on Friday night for the Green Carpet Gala Concert & Reception at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts. On Saturday morning, the Titan Pep Band Alumni Reunion will take place on the Quad while you enjoy the free Pancake/Sausage Breakfast. Saturday night, join us in the Young Main Lounge for Club Tommy. Student Loan Repayment Program Announced

From Sept 1- Nov 17, the NIH Division of Loan Repayment will be accepting applications for student loan repayment program for the areas of clinical research, pediatric research, health disparities research, contraception and infertility research, or clinical research for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.
To qualify, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, possess a doctoral-level degree (with the exception of the contraception and infertility research LRP), and have educational loan debt equal to or exceeding 20 percent of his/her annual institutional base salary.
In addition, applicants must devote at least 20 hours per week to research that fits within one of five program areas: clinical research, pediatric research, health disparities research, contraception and infertility research, or clinical research for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Bloomington-Normal Ranked Among Top 50 US College Towns

Thought your IWU experience was great? Apparently you’re not the only one.

Bloomington-Normal ranked #38 of the 50 for best college towns in America by Best College Reviews.  The article considered attributes such as student-to-teacher ratio, cultural offerings and nearby employers.  The survey noted:

“Through Illinois State University, a number of cultural offerings, sports events, and businesses catering to student nightlife are present. Large employers like State Farm Insurance, Mitsubishi, and Country Financial, coupled with a low cost of living make Bloomington a great location for young college town seekers.”
