Joe Binder, a class of 2004 double major in physics and chemistry, was recognized as one of the top young scientists at BP with the Tallow Chandlers Award.
After earning a Ph.D. at University of Wisconsin-Madison, Binder went on to work for BP on its $500 million Energy Biosciences Institute collaboration with University of California, Berkeley and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research on biofuels and bio-based materials has taken him to research labs as well as farm fields around the country.
