Homecoming 2019: Your Story Starts Here!

Illinois Wesleyan University Homecoming
October 4-6, 2019

We are looking forward to another great Homecoming this fall! Your story started here, and Illinois Wesleyan University helped guide your path to where you are today.
This is cause for celebration! Come back to campus on October 4-6 to celebrate, reminisce, and revisit your story.

John ’57 and Pat Jordan ’59

The 2018 Loyalty Award will be presented to John and Pat Jordan (’57 and ’59) at Homecoming on October 5th at the Alumni Awards Ceremony at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Center’s, Young Main Lounge. John and Pat have served as emcees for the Golden Titans homecoming dinner in 2017 and have been loyal supporters to the University through their donations and service.

Homecoming Veterans Service 2017

As IWU celebrates Titans Around the World at Homecoming this weekend, we will also honor our alumni who served worldwide as veterans and first-responders, including Captain Ryan A. Beaupre ’95. We will remember Ryan and all veterans and first-responders who have given their lives in the service of others and our country. Presenting the colors will be American Legion Color Guard Post 635 Normal and Post 56 from Bloomington. The ceremony will take place this Saturday, October 14th at 12:45 p.m., prior to the Homecoming Football game at Tucci Stadium and will include the National Anthem sung by Wayne Messmer ’72.  Classmates and friends can view the ceremony on streaming video live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/iwu/.

Memories and Homecoming

Phi Gamma Delta Celebration

During IWU’s 2016 Homecoming Weekend, another Special event was held. The Alpha Deuteron Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta held their Sesquicentennial Celebration. The Celebration was held at The Doubletree Hotel on 9-30 & 10-1. Over 230 members gathered Saturday night for dinner. Unless someone else can show otherwise, we believe we are the oldest Chapter of any Fraternity in the State of Illinois.

The following Brothers from the ’50 era are as follows:

Robert Carden ’52
Robert Hildebrand ’52
William Meister ’56
Dean Padgett ’58
Ronald Bell ’59
Roger Colton ’59
Roy Ferguson ’59
Dennis Mattix ’59
Gerald Philpott ’59
Greg Gardner ’60
Elvin Gentry ’60
Edward Martinez ’60
Robert Ward ’60

During the Celebration Marvin Bower ’45 was awarded the Diamond Owl for his 75 years in the Fraternity. There were 45 plus in attendance who have been members for more than 50 years. A great event for everyone in attendance!

Jim Ridenour ’54 – Homecoming 2014

It was a beautiful weekend in Bloomington—the weather and the campus!  The 150th Gala Anniversary for the Music School was spectacular, and I am hoping that IWU puts some of it up on the website, or makes a CD of it available for those who did not make it.  Everything was very well laid out for us, including golf carts to take us around the campus.  Kyle Pfortmiller, a frequent performer at the Metropolitan Opera sang at the Gala and gave a wonderful Class lecture in Ames Library.  He was one of three alumni receiving awards at the luncheon.

We had about 100 for the Golden Titan dinner on Saturday night.  Mickey Drexler came as a special guest, but Lee Short fell on Thursday night and was not able to make it.  Roger Coventry led the group in songs for our era and Provost Green had some good words about the great advances being made by IWU.  We certainly can be proud of our alma mater.

Sorry that several of you were not able to make it back—extra sorry to miss the Gettys at the last minute.  I am now on the Alumni Board, probably the oldest board member ever!  I will be going back for the Spring board meeting on April 10th, so we could try another reunion gathering then if you would like to do so!

Peace,

Jim Ridenour
