Robert and Mary Cummins of Fairbury celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a surprise weekend of activities hosted by their family in Bloomington. They were married on December 18, 1955. 17 family members gathered at historic Lucca’s Grill in downtown Bloomington for the “tears of joy” reunion, followed by 24 hours of revelry at Eastland Suites in Bloomington.

Well, little “Bobby Cummins,” (that’s how I remember you from when I took piano lessons from your lovely Mother in St. Anne, Illinois.) I think I was her first piano student, only 4 years old, but oh, how I loved playing the piano, and how I loved your mother. She played Ring-Around-the-Rosie and sang with me, and she smelled so good. I later learned it was Avon hand cream. She is the one who got me started on a love of music leading to a career in church music. A very special lady in my life. Congratulations on arriving at 60 years of marriage. John and I are looking forward to our 65th in July 7, 2016. May you have many more years together. I doubt I’ll get back to IWU anymore – most of my friends and classmates are no longer living. But it was a great school then (class of “50) and it looks like it keeps getting betterr.

    Bob,

Congratulations on reaching 60 wonderful years of marriage. May God bless you with many, many more. Alice and I celebrated #59 last August. Hope we are fortunate enough to also reach #60. We are doing pretty well for two “old folks”. Just trying to stay healthy and in the mainstream of things. I still play the organ for church one Sunday a month which is about all of my involvement in music. Had a wonderful career here in Nashville, the only High School I ever taught music in, coming here right after graduation in 1954. Met my wife that December and have lived here (and in the house we built in 1959) ever since. Our son, Craig (55) and family live in Tamarac, Florida (near Ft. Lauderdale) and we were fortunate enough to get to spend Christmas with them. Our daughter, Carla, 53, lives in Albany, N.Y. We were fortunate to get to fly there in June to attend our grand-daughter’s 18th birthday and her graduation from high school. Gwyn is now a freshman in Cornell. Our grandson in Florida graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University this December. Sure with they (our kids and families) were closer, but they are where their work is.
Hope all of your family is well. Take care and God bless.

    Hello Mary and Bob,

Congratulations on reaching this wonderful milestone. I remember so well Bob and Beebe when I was a freshman pledge at Phi Mu. Those were such great years at IWU and I am so thankful that I became a Sinfonian. Until our permanent move to Dunedin, Florida in 2013, Pat and I really enjoyed visiting IWU at homecoming events. It was great seeing you both there.

Best wishes for many more years of wedded bliss.
