Dave Varel ’05 authored “The Professoriate Needs Pedigree Diversity,” which was published by the American Association of University Professors in its Academe Blog on November 9. Varel’s second book, The Scholar and the Struggle: Lawrence Reddick’s Crusade for Black History and Black Power, will be published by UNC Press in December.

Senior nursing major Meghan Lehmann ’21 has been recognized as Illinois Wesleyan University’s 2020 Lincoln Academy Student Laureate. Lehmann has been a certified nursing assistant since 2016, and currently works as a Patient Care Technician at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
An interdisciplinary research team made up of IWU faculty, an IWU alumna, and a local veterinarian published a study in the Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology about shotgun-harvested deer that contained metal fragments, including lead.
