Click on Victor Bond’s Golf Dream blog and you’ll discover that the most recent post is “John Updike, Golfer” by David Owen, which begins, “If golfers were allowed to vote for the Nobel Prize in literature, John Updike would have won it in 1991, when The New Yorker published his short story ‘Farrell’s Caddie.'” The article-remembrance originally appeared in the April 2008 Golf Digest.
Here’s the link.
We are honoured that you’re linking to our site, which is working very hard to be the most literate broad audience golf site ever.
To this end, we have already decided that we will almost exclusively highlight John Updike’s golf works going forward.
With all due respect to Herbert Warren Wind and other great golf writers, in our opinion, no one has as well captured the essence of the game of golf as it is experienced by the avid amateur, and his words appeal as no others’ to those who are not golfers at all, but who are curious about the game and its world.
I humbly extend an invitation to you to contribute as you would like in future, with full attribution and links to you.
You will notice that there is no advertising on our site. It is our intention to maintain our non-commercial nature.
Again thank you for noticing our appreciation of this great man… of this great guy.
Kind regards,
