Tung Nguyen ’15 Future Plans

Earl and Marian A. Beling Professor of Natural Sciences Tian-Xiao He and one of his students, Tung Nguyen ’15, published “Construction of spline type orthogonal scaling functions and wavelets,” Journal of Applied Functional Analysis, 10 (2015), No. 3-4, 189-203.

Nguyen has been awarded a full scholarship to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison to pursue a Ph.D. in mathematics.

Kemi won the Technos International Prize, recognizing her academic excellence and commitment to international awareness and understanding.Kemi plans to teach English in a French-speaking country before she goes to graduate school to pursue a master’s degree. Read the full article here.

Amanda King ’15 and Donald DeSalvo ’15 – The Next Step

Two students discussed the next steps they are going to take towards their future careers.  For the next two years, Amanda King an Environmental Studies major will be serving in the Peace Corp in West Africa.

Donald DeSalvo a History/ Secondary Education major will be working as a secondary mathematics teacher at a charter school called American Preparatory Academy at their new campus in Las Vegas, Nevada beginning this fall.  He is currently spending one month training at one of APA’s campuses in Utah, getting the opportunity to observe classes, do some teaching, and substitute teach before he moves to Las Vegas at the beginning of June. Among winners of the 2015 Creative Writing Awards at Illinois Wesleyan, Olivia Anderson ’15 won the Kay Nelson Memorial Essay Prize for her essay “Blood Tide” and Erica Kucharski ’15 won the American Poets Prize for her series of poems.  Read the full article here.

Jetting off to Japan

Four new IWU graduates Charlotte Silver, Caitlin Arrington, Devon Redlin, and Kasia Tomaszynska have won competitive positions to teach in Japan starting this fall. Charlotte will be teaching at Technos College in Tokyo and Caitlin, Devon, and Kasia with the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. Read the full article here.
