Work by students in Professor of Art Sherri McElroy’s Graphic Design IV class is among the top 40 semifinalist entries in the Records for Life contest sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The students involved were seniors Rebeccah Erickson, Robert Frank III, William Frank, Audrey Ito and Tara Simpson.

The students submitted the prototype, using a design process with the following steps: research, empathy, ideation, design, feedback, re-design. In addition to reviewing hundreds of existing immunization records from around the world, they heard from community experts about their experience in third world healthcare and immunization – Drake Zimmerman, Munib S. Abdulrehman ’02, and Trish Cleary. These community members were later part of a team that evaluated prototype designs.
