Dr. Ashley Rietz, a third-year resident in the UNC Family Medicine residency program, received a 2013 Robert C. Cefalo House Officer Award from the UNC School of Medicine last week.
Dr. Rietz has been selected by residents and faculty to be a 4th year Chief Resident in the Department of Family Medicine. Last year, Dr. Rietz was the only resident presenter at a regional quality improvement collaborative, and took a leadership role in a multi-site effort to reduce inappropriate ED utilization among patients. In addition, Dr. Rietz was inducted into the UNC Academy of Educators for her commitment to teaching residents and medical students, and furthering their growth as clinicians and health care professionals.
The Robert C. Cefalo awards may be used by recipients over a three-year period to cover expenses associated with their professional development and/or attendance of scientific conferences or meetings that will enhance the recipient’s knowledge and abilities in the health care setting.
To be nominated for a Robert C. Cefalo award, each recipient must demonstrate a sincere empathy for patients and their families, effectiveness in listening to and communicating with our patients, proven advocacy for and demonstration of the highest standards of patient care and maintain exemplary professional and interpersonal interactions with colleagues, staff, patients, and visitors.
