Thank You From IWU

February 16th is Thank A Giver Day — a day when the Illinois Wesleyan campus community celebrates the generosity of our supporters. We celebrate Thank A Giver Day on February 16th because at this point we’re 70% of the way through the school year. Since tuition covers 70% of the total cost of an IWU education, it’s a fitting time to draw attention to the fact that outside support from alumni and friends of the University plays a key role in delivering the kind of educational experience we expect from our alma mater.
Last year, over 8,000 people made gifts to Illinois Wesleyan University and, regardless of the size, each and every one played a role in keeping Illinois Wesleyan strong. If you would like to take a moment to make your annual gift, we invite you to do so at iwu.edu/give.

If you took photos while you were here, please send them to classnews at iwu.edu with names and captions. We will post them to your Online Class Newsletter. Check here to see if you or your friends were featured in the campus Homecoming Album.

You can relive the weekend by perusing an archive of social media activity.

We were thrilled to offer outstanding Back to College classes taught by our talented alumni and esteemed faculty. If you weren’t able to attend the Back to College classes, you’re in luck! Click here to view the classes available to view online.

Alumni award winners, Kyle Pfortmiller ’92, Sean Parsons ’01 and Kris Condon ‘84 gave heartfelt tributes to faculty mentors and their alma mater at the Oct. 18 Homecoming luncheon where they were honored. Those speeches can be viewed here.

Please take a few minutes and give us your feedback so that we can make Homecoming even better. We hope to see you next year. Mark your calendars for October 9-11, 2015!

Sarah Hayes ’96

A long-time artistic associate at Porchlight Music Theatre, Sarah has landed the lead role in Bells Are Ringing, the upcoming Porchlight Revisits… production. The Porchlight Revisits… series raises the curtain on “forgotten” Broadway musicals.

Bells Are Ringing is set in 1950’s New York, where Ella Peterson, an operator at telephone message service,  “Susanswerphone,” falls for one of her clients, aspiring playwright Jeff Moss, AKA telephone number “Plaza 0 double-four double three.” But Ella, unsure of herself, assumes other identities in an effort to keep the conversation continuing—and the comical plot thickens.

Bells Are Ringing will play October 28 and 29 at Stage 773 in Chicago.

“Into the Woods” Heads Into the City (Rachael Warren ’96)

Rachael has spent another great season in Ashland with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. This season, she has performed in two productions, as the Baker’s Wife in “Into the Woods” and as Sheriff’s Auxiliary, Muriel Humphrey, Pat Nixon and Ensemble in “The Great Society”. Reviews for both productions can be found through the links.

Now the production of “Into the Woods” (for which Amanda Dehnert (’94) is the director and music director) has been announced as part of the new season at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, where it will run from December 2-21; Rachael’s husband will be performing in the production as well. When the production closes, Rachael and her family will return to Rhode Island where she and her husband are both Resident Actors at Trinity Repertory Company.

Do You Like To Be Scared? (T.J. Cimfel and David White, ’96)

I hope so, because Shut In, a new psychological horror thriller written by T.J. Cimfel and David White, began production this week!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will star Beth Riesgraf as “a woman who suffers from agoraphobia so crippling that when a trio of criminals break into her house, she cannot bring herself to flee. But what the intruders don’t realize is that agoraphobia is not her only psychosis.”

Cimfel and White’s script previously won Best Horror Feature Screenplay at the 2011 Shriekfest and was on the 2012 Blood List of Hollywood’s top unproduced horror screenplays.

Can’t wait for a good scare? You can already see one of Cimfel’s other movies! No Tell Motel is available on DVD or through Amazon’s Instant Video.
