Homecoming Ceremony Honoring Veterans and First Responders

As IWU celebrates Titans Around the World at Homecoming this weekend, we will also honor our alumni who served worldwide as veterans and first-responders, including Captain Ryan A. Beaupre ’95. We will remember Ryan and all veterans and first-responders who have given their lives in the service of others and our country. Presenting the colors will be American Legion Color Guard Post 635 Normal and Post 56 from Bloomington. The ceremony will take place this Saturday, October 14th at 12:45 p.m., prior to the Homecoming Football game at Tucci Stadium and will include the National Anthem sung by Wayne Messmer ’72. Darcia Kunkel ’91 Book Debut

Darcia Kunkel ’91 released both paperback and kindle versions of her debut book, 40-Something and Fried in April. With humor and honesty, Darcia documents the ups and downs of a 40-something mother of three, wife, author, and editor. A former military spouse, she writes on topics including motherhood, Christian inspiration, military spouse transition, practical cooking, and the struggles of perfectionism.

Todd Stocke ’93 Sourcebooks

Todd Stocke ’93, vice president and editorial director of Sourcebooks, discussed the success of their Jabberwocky imprint, through which Sourcebooks became the 16th largest children’s publisher in the U.S.

Heléna Klumpp ’93 Partner in D.C. Law Office

Heléna Klumpp recently joined the law firm Ivins, Phillips & Barker as a partner in its Washington, D.C. office. Heléna, who has over 20 years of experience as a tax lawyer, is now a member of the firm’s corporate tax and tax policy practice groups. She and her husband, Bill Emery, and their children, Catherine and Joseph Emery, relocated to Vienna, Virginia from Evanston, Illinois, where Heléna had been serving as VP-Tax for Baxter International Inc.

Tariq Khan Predicts Academy Award Winners

Fox News Oscar Expert Tariq Khan was the top-scoring pundit predicting the Academy Award winners on the website Gold Derby. Khan tied for first place out of 30 of Hollywood’s best-known Oscar experts from major media outlets, including Entertainment Weekly, Fandango, Rolling Stone, USA Today and Vanity Fair. Unfortunately, his predictions failed to help his classmate Dean Jukovich win his office Oscar pool.

Mark your Calendar Now- 25th reunion in 2018

It’s hard to believe but the Class of ’93 will celebrate its 25th reunion next year!  Homecoming is tentatively set for the weekend of October 5-7, 2018, so mark your calendars now and plan to come back to campus for a fun weekend of activities, celebrations, and renewing friendships.

We had a very successful 20th reunion planned by a great committee and are looking for volunteers again. If you would like to help plan the 25th Reunion, please contact Mark Denzler at mdenzler@ima-net.org.

Marie Tarbell Zahorick Earns Nursing Degree

Marie Tarbell Zahorick ’93 finished her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 2015 and is attending Purdue University-Northwest graduate school for her Family Nurse Practitioner Master’s degree.  She will graduate in summer 2018. She also recertified with her 10-year International Board Certified Lactation Consultant exam in 2015.
