Homecoming Veteran’s Service 2017

As IWU celebrates Titans Around the World at Homecoming this weekend, we will also honor our alumni who served worldwide as veterans and first-responders, including Captain Ryan A. Beaupre ’95. We will remember Ryan and all veterans and first-responders who have given their lives in the service of others and our country. Presenting the colors will be American Legion Color Guard Post 635 Normal and Post 56 from Bloomington. The ceremony will take place this Saturday, October 14th at 12:45 p.m., prior to the Homecoming Football game at Tucci Stadium and will include the National Anthem sung by Wayne Messmer ’72.  Classmates and friends can view the ceremony on streaming video live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/iwu/.

Karen Manley-Kahler ’91

Karen Manley-Kahler ’91 was featured as a soprano in the Dekalb Municipal Band at “A Star Gazing Event” concert on Tuesday, Aug. 15. Karen received a degree in music theatre from Illinois Wesleyan University. She is from Belvidere where she works for her family’s car dealership, Manley’s Belvidere Ford Lincoln. She is heavily involved in coordinating efforts to raise money for the Belvidere schools and nonprofit organizations through Drive Events sponsored by Ford and Lincoln. Karen also serves as a section leader for the Mendelssohn Chorale which sings with the Rockford Symphony Orchestra and is the choir director at First Presbyterian Church in Belvidere.
This summer was her third year directing the community choir in the annual community worship service as a part of Heritage Days.

Juan Salgado ’91

Juan Salgado ’91 was named the new chancellor of City Colleges of Chicago by mayor Rahm Emanuel.  you can read more about it here. Another article featuring Salgado talks about his start at a community college before transferring to IWU, you can read about it here.

Clara Ehrhart ’91

IWU Alumni gathered to celebrate at the Quincy Community Theatre’s annual awards and recognition dinner. Pictured are Adrienne Fisk ’13, Jim Rupp ’80, Doris Sanders ’91, JT Dozier ’78 and Clara Ehrhart ’15. Ms. Sanders ’91 won an award for Outstanding Performance in a musical for her role of Mother Superior in Sister Act.

Doris (Spencer) Sanders ’91

Doris E. (Spencer) Sanders, ’91 and Beth Izzo, ’11 were recently in the Quincy Community Theatre’s production of Sister Act, inspired by the movie of the same name. Doris E. Sanders starred as Mother Superior and Beth Izzo was Sister Mary. Emily Dozier, daughter of IWU Alum J.T. Dozier ’78 was Sister Mary Robert.
