Louis Polovich ’57

Unfortunately, Louis Polovich ’57 passed away in Guillespie, Illinois on August 28, 2019 at the age of 89. He married Milly Polovich in 1958 and served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. Before retiring, Louis was a teacher, prinicpal and coach for Gillepsie Unit School District 7. Louis was a member of Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 217, Knights of Columbus, Retired Teachers Association, St. Joseph’s Church of Benld, and Plavi Dunav Tamburitzans. He survived by his wife, Milly, seven children, 20 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Gerald Roth ’58

I’m saddened to tell you that Gerald Roth ’58 passed away November 10th, 2018 in San Diego, California. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, as well as his daughter, two sons, stepsons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was born on October 22nd, 1929 in Taylorville, Illinois. After graduating from Illinois Wesleyan University, he held a career in Data Processing, founded a computer-onto-microfilm service, created a specialty lighting business (Bulbman Inc.), and retired in 1996. Gerald was one of the first small-business owners to establish a program allowing employees to own stock and one of the first to hire people with physical disabilities. He was a firm believer in equal opportunities for everybody and humanitarian benefits for his employees.

Bob’59 and Judy ’59 Riseling

Bob and Judy Riseling ’59 designed, made, glazed and fired the tiles for this 43 square foot mosaic on the side of their daughter Kim’s shed  at her country home near Shelbyville, Kentucky. They are members of the Potter’s Guild in London, Ontario and work at home or at the London Clay Arts Centre on personal as well as other projects, including mosaics in the city of London.

What a beautiful gift to their daughter!

Majorie “Marge” Egger ’51

Majorie “Marge” Egger ’51, sadly passed away on Tuesday, May 23 2017 in South Elgin, Illinois. She lived in Elgin for her entire life and was an Executive Secretary at the Elgin National Watch Co. before retiring. Marge was a member of the Elgin First Baptist Church and the National Secretaries Association. She is survived by her stepdaughter and two sister-in-laws.

Nina Baird ’48

Nina Jane Baird ’48 unfortunately passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019 in Glen Carbon, Illinois at the age of 92. She was born on January 8th, 1927 in Edwardsville, Illinois. She married Everett Baird in 1946, and the two owned and operated Midwest Foundry Supply until Everett’s death in 1975. Nina was elected as the Edwardsville city clerk in 1981, and retired from the position in 2001. She is survived by her son, Thomas Baird, her three grandchildren and her four great-grandchildren. Nina was a member of Saint John’s United Methodist Church in Edwardsville, Edwardsville Rotary club, Edwardsville Junior Service Club, League of Women Voters, and was one of the original founders of the Edwardsville Community Foundation. Awards Nina received included the Paul Harris Fellow award, the Edwardsville Chamber of Commerce Athena award, and she was a distinguished recipient of the Women of Achievement award.

Bob Levine ’48

Bob Levine ’48 started the first kidney transplant program in West Michigan that continues as a fine program to this date. He is an active member of Advocates for Senior Issues in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and makes presentations on Medicare fraud and single-payer healthcare.
