1971 Bount letter

Postmaster General Winton M. Blount’s note to Arends accompanying the first-day-of-issue commemorative print and stamp.

This 1971 note from Postmaster General Blount was included with the print and first-issue stamp. The note reads, “Dear Les: The enclosed memento from President Nixon and me is a token of our appreciation for your service to the Nation. We felt that nothing could be a more fitting expression of our gratitude than this philatelic portrayal in honor of the historic Apollo XI moon landing one year ago today.”
