Preslav Mantchev ’17

Preslav Mantchev ’17 earned “pro bono notation” from the University of Illinois College of Law. The notation will appear on his J.D. diploma, recognizing his contributions to the Champaign County Record Sealing and Expungement Summit, Forest Preserve District of Cook County, and the City of Chicago.

Boryana Borisova ’17

Boryana Borisova ’17 will pursue an extensive Russian language study after receiving both the U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Award and the U.S. Department of State 2018 National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Fellowship.

Borisova is currently enrolled in the Master of Library Science program at Indiana University’s School of Informatics and Computing and is on the path to becoming a U.S. diplomat.  Read the full article here.

Megan Koch ’17 along with IWU alumna, Kate Tombaugh ’07

Megan Koch ’17 along with IWU alumna, Kate Tombaugh ’07, is currently in Fort Worth, Texas singing with the Fort Worth Opera. Small world indeed.
Megan is currently wrapping up her 1st year as a Masters student at the University of North Texas, and both she and Kate had the distinct honor of singing in Fort Worth’s ‘Frontiers’ showcase Thursday, May 3rd at Bass Performance Hall at 7:30 PM. Megan sang excerpts as ‘Mabel’ in “Mabel’s Call,” a new opera by composer-librettist Nell Shaw Cohen, and Kate sang excerpts as ‘The Dough’ in “Companionship” by Rachel Peters and ‘Clara Ford’ in “Fordlandia” by composer William Susman and librettist Stuart Rojstaczer. It was a tremendous showcase for these great new works! Opera is alive and thriving!

Homecoming 2017 Registration is now open!

Come celebrate our first Homecoming as alumni October 13-15.  Let us know if you’re coming by registering here.  You can also view the homecoming schedule of events at iwu.edu/homecoming. And don’t forget to attend Club Tommy in the Young Main Lounge on Saturday night to visit with alumni, family, friends, faculty and staff.

Class of ’17 Physics Majors Directly Entering the Workforce

Dino Karas: Internship at FermiLab from mid-June until the end of Fall. If all goes according to plan, he will then stay on at FermiLab for the rest of the year, before going to graduate school the following year.
Ian Simmons: Solar Panel Engineer, at a start-up company in Seattle, Omnidian Solar.
Fiona Breyer: Analyst position at United Airlines.
Sam Kim (an IWU Physics minor): Software Engineer, at Epic, a medical software company.
We are so proud of all of our Physics majors for having 100% placement after graduation!
