Congrats to Class of 1991 Illinois Wesleyan alumnus Juan Salgado, a Chicago-based community leader, who has been named one of the 24 MacArthur Fellows for 2015!
Each of the so-called “genius” grant winners receives a monetary award from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, with no strings attached, as an investment in the person’s originality, insight and potential.
Salgado gave our Commencement address in 2013 and received an honorary doctor of humane letters degree during the ceremony. He joins alumna Dawn Upshaw, Class of 1982, who was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2007.
It’s a great day to be a Titan!
As a member of the Finance staff at John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, I was very excited to learn Joan Salgado won the Genius Grant! I was very proud to say he is a fellow alum!

Prior to Stanford, Moore spent two years on the athletics communication staff at Harvard. His time in Cambridge, Massachusetts, was highlighted by a trip to the 2012 NCAA Tournament with the men’s basketball team.
Moore graduated with a degree in business administration from Illinois Wesleyan University, where he was a member of the 2010 national championship baseball team as a senior. He earned a master’s degree in recreation, sport and tourism from the University of Illinois in 2012.
