Lauren Pietruszka ’09

Lauren Pietruszka ’09 was recently hired as the new Director of Academic and Social Supports for the Golden Apple Foundation in September 2016. Golden Apple is a non-profit organization that works to inspire, develop and support teacher and school leader excellence in Illinois, especially in schools-of-need. As a 2005 Golden Apple Scholar, Lauren pursued secondary English education at IWU, obtained her Master of Arts in Teaching at National Louis University in 2010, and taught Literacy and AVID courses for six years in Chicago Public Schools. Now as the Director, she is responsible for supporting 600+ undergraduate Golden Apple Scholars throughout the state as they earn their baccalaureate degrees and become teachers in Illinois schools-of-need.

Vanessa Williams ’09 started her own law firm Watson- Wesley Williams, LLC, with her law partner Denise Coleman. The firm services the areas of Cook, Will, and DuPage County. They practice in the following areas of law: divorce, child support, traffic, criminal, tax, bankruptcy, and personal injury.

 

Marshall B. Garrett ’09

Marshall B. Garrett ’09 completed hisMaster of Fine Arts in Shakespeare and Performance at Mary Baldwin College, where he also received his Master of Letters in 2015. For completion of the MFA, his class and cofounded a one-year theatre company, Sweet Wag Shakespeare, in which Marshall directed two new plays (ONE WOMAN TOWN and SHAKESPEARE’S WAR OF THE ROSES), and played Guildenstern/Player Queen in HAMLET, Antonio in THE CITY NIGHTCAP, and Cloten in CYMBELINE. He is currently directing HENRY VI PART 2 for the American Shakespeare Center Theatre Camp, and will be starting a theatre company in the fall.
