Thank-A-Giver Day

Thank-A-Giver Day (TAG Day) is on Monday, February 11. This day provides the IWU campus community with the opportunity to thank the donors who support Illinois Wesleyan. IWU celebrates each year in mid-February because it marks the symbolic point during the academic year – about 70% of the way through – when tuition dollars run out and support from alumni and friends, our endowment, and external grants kicks in for the remainder of the year.

Thank you to all donors who help make the IWU experience possible!

Emeritus Associate Professor of Economics Robert (Bob) Leekley

Emeritus Associate Professor of Economics Robert (Bob) Leekley passed away on Tuesday, Jan.1. Prof. Leekley started teaching at Illinois Wesleyan in 1974, and from his first year to his 44th, his commitment to IWU and our students remained unchanged. His positive impact on generations of students and colleagues will not be forgotten. Read an obituary. A service will be held in the IWU Evelyn Chapel from 11-12 on Wednesday, January 9th.

Amy McCabe ’01

Amy McCabe ’01 returned to Bloomington on Friday, Oct. 26 as a member of the President’s Own United States Marine Band and played at ISU’s Bone Student Center as part of the band’s 100th concert tour. You can read more about the concert here. Congrats, Amy!

Erika Holst ’01

Erika (Rozinek) Holst ’01 recently published Historic Houses of Lincoln’s
Illinois (SIU Press, 2018) , an illustrated compendium of twenty-two
historic buildings in the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area, all of
which are open to the public. Each site links today’s visitors with a place
Lincoln lived, a home of a Lincoln friend or colleague, or a spot that
illuminates Lincoln’s era and legacy in central Illinois. Along with dozens
of modern and historical photographs, entries contain explorations of
historical connections to Lincoln and detailed information about
exceptional features and artifacts.

Danielle (Blomarz) Kays ’01

Danielle (Blomarz) Kays ’01 of the law firm Seyfarth Shaw was among many of the organizers of a summit on employment law. Kays who often represents employers, said the worldwide #MeToo movement “has made these claims public and it’s important to talk about these issues.” This movement and similar issues were topics that the McLean County Bar Association, Chamber of Commerce and the Bloomington-Normal Human Resource Council explored at a summit on Tuesday, April 17th, along with other employment law issues.

The conference was the first effort of its kind to bring together attorneys, business owners and human resource professionals to examine this evolving area of the law.

Thank you for all you do, Danielle!

All In for Wesleyan

Tuesday, April 3rd is our day of giving at Illinois Wesleyan and this year’s theme is
Think Bigger!
Not only is today a day for giving, it’s a day to celebrate IWU and all of the things that make it special.  Last year, our class had an impressive 30 donors, and we contributed $6,410. Let’s think bigger and surpass last year’s donors and dollars contributed! Think of the impact this can make for IWU students and their families!
