Meg Rincker ’99 received the Outstanding Teaching Award from Purdue Calumet
A Purdue Calumet faculty member since 2008, Associate Professor Rincker is described by peers as an innovator in the classroom whose teaching empowers students with tools of analysis and effective communication.
She also uses the world as a classroom by engaging students in learning experiences abroad to help them better understand their role as citizens. Additionally, peers credit her with being a mentor to students and colleagues alike.
“I am humbled to be recognized with this award, as I admire so many outstanding faculty at Purdue University Calumet who go the extra mile for their students,” Rincker said. “As a teacher I try to be a connector, someone who connects students with a love of research, great ideas, big thinkers, innovative methods and new approaches as they develop and become happy, successful, complete people.”
She holds a baccalaureate degree from Illinois Wesleyan University and master’s and doctoral degrees from Washington University in St. Louis.

’99 updates, just in time for Homecoming
Hi everyone. Hope you’ll all make it down for Homecoming. I’m thinking about showing up early on Saturday 10/10 and running the 5k. Can’t stick around long though, I’ve got to coach my oldest daughter’s soccer game.
- Anthony Algmin ’99 became the first Chief Data Officer for the Chicago Transit Authority
-
Kristine Jacobs Whiteaker ’99 and John recently welcomed their newborn Maya Faye Whiteaker: “She was born on June 8, 2015. She weighed 8lbs., 12oz. and was 21 inches long. Her big brother, Sean, adores her and loves to help us care for Maya.”
- Ethan Schrum ’99 began a position as assistant professor of history at Azusa Pacific University near Los Angeles in the 2014-15 academic year. Ethan and his wife Kara also welcomed their first child, Bartholomew Augustine Schrum on 7/18/14.
- Ryan Mellske ’99 studied international law at Duke and now practices international arbitration in Washington DC. In May 2014 Ryan joined the Washington, DC office of Three Crowns LLP, a new law firm dedicated to the resolution of international disputes. Thank You 2015 Donors!
THANK YOU to all of our fiscal year 2015 donors! Illinois Wesleyan University‘s alumni participation rate has increased for the third year in a row thanks to the generosity of donors like you! Your support helps to ensure IWU is stronger and more affordable for current and future generations of Titans. You’ve done well, and you’ve done good! Go Titans!
Let’s Move the Tommymometer to the Top!
Illinois Wesleyan’s fiscal year end is quickly approaching on July 31. Have you shown your Titan Pride by making a gift this year?
Check out the new Tommymometer to see where we stand by clicking here.
If you have already made a gift this year, thank you! If you have not yet made your gift, there is still time for you to make a difference this year.
By making your gift before July 31, you will not only add to the Tommymometer for alumni donors, but you will help to keep current Illinois Wesleyan students enrolled and our alma mater strong. The percentage of alumni donors is important to IWU because outside organizations view it as a metric to measure alumni satisfaction. It affects Illinois Wesleyan’s rankings, bond rating, and ability to earn grants.
Thank you for doing your part to fill the Tommymometer before July 31 and keep Illinois Wesleyan moving forward!
Class of ’99 updates
Hi all, another batch of alumni updates, piled up for quite a while I’m afraid:

- Adriane Powell has been named Director of Alumni Relations at Illinois Wesleyan.
- Taryn (Hettlinger) Parise ’99 and husband Tony welcomed son, Benjamin John Parise, on Jan. 28, 2015.
- Karle Koritz ’99 (again!) and David Newberg ’75 have been working to protect the Mahomet Aquifer from hazardous PCB waste.
ALL IN FOR WESLEYAN
Today is All in for Wesleyan 2015! All gifts made today will be matched by an anonymous donor (up to $75,000).
And this year, there’s a twist. Let me explain.
Gifts to the Wesleyan Fund support student financial assistance and also the little, but essential, things that create the Illinois Wesleyan experience. So today we’re celebrating these little essentials — the unsung heroes. Make a gift today and your name could appear next to one of these items for a limited time.*
Give today and your name could be selected to grace the hot spot, the WESN microphone, and other pieces of campus that will be announced throughout the day. (Learn more)
Give today and your gift will be matched by an anonymous donor.
Give today and show that you’re proud to be a Titan!
