Jim Brown ’77, a wealth management adviser, has qualified for Court of the Table Membership in the Million Dollar Roundtable (MDRT), an independent and international association of leading life insurance producers. Jack Sikma ’77 was named a finalist for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Sikma, a Seattle SuperSonics great, was a seven-time All-Star and 1979 NBA champion. Read more about Jack’s accomplishment here.

We are saddened to share the news of the passing of Dr. Steve Doran ’79. Steve passed away on December 3, 2018 while while serving on a mission trip in Haiti.
In October 2018, Doran was honored at Homecoming as Illinois Wesleyan’s Distinguished Alumnus Award winner. In his acceptance speech, he stated, “There is no award for which I am eligible that would mean more to me than to be the Distinguished Alumnus of Illinois Wesleyan University.”
George Jones ’77, Garland ISD’s Director of Visual and Performing Arts, has received the Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA) Lifetime Administrator Achievement Award. This distinction signifies an outstanding career in music education, as well as many contributions to the profession. Garland ISD has been home to Jones for 40 years, 20 years as a band director and 21 years in his current role. Read more about his accomplishments here.

D. Paul Miller, retired sociology professor who served Illinois Wesleyan from 1960 to 1982, died on Nov. 3 at age 101. You can view his obituary here.A medal-winning Senior Olympian, Paul was remembered fondly by IWU athletics department colleagues Norm Esch ’75, Ron Rose ’88 and Stew Salowitz ’76 in a tribute in The Pantagraph.

Steve Doran ’79 held a Back to College Class at homecoming titled “Haiti.” In this class, Steve gave an overview of the history of Haiti and discussed the unique challenges and rewarding experiences of his work in the communities there.
Dr. Steve Doran ’79, an oral surgeon in Bloomington, Illinois, will be presented the 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award at Homecoming on October 5th at the Alumni Awards Ceremony at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Center’s, Young Main Lounge. This award is presented to an alumnus or alumna who has made a distinguished contribution to society, has achieved distinction in his or her profession, or has demonstrated civic leadership.
In 2011, the Illinois State Dental Society (ISDS) presented Doran with the President’s Award for outstanding contributions to the dental profession. Since then, he has made 12 oral surgery mission trips to Haiti and Honduras, in addition to his participation in the Gary S. Johnson ’71 free extraction clinic and four ISDS Mission of Mercy clinics. He presently serves on the boards of the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal and John Scott Health Services.
