Brass & Woodwind Day

Special Guest Artist, Hugo Saavedra, Trombone

The IWU Brass and Woodwind Day is a celebration of this amazing family of instruments intended for all ages and levels of wind musicians to learn from our incredible Faculty and a special guest artist, Hugo Saavedra. During the day, you will be invited to attend a masterclass, special topic conversations, hear IWU chamber wind groups, as well as opportunities to audition for the IWU School of Music if you are a high school senior musician. The day will also include a welcome breakfast and a group meal in our campus dining hall. There is a $25 participation fee to join us for the entire day.

Our guest artist, Hugo Saavedra, is a trombonist with the Chicago Civic Orchestra as an orchestra fellow. He graduated from Northwestern University where he studied with Michael Mulcahy and has played with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a special tour and concert performed in Carnegie Hall. He also studied with Jay Friedman, Principal Trombone of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Hugo works in the main music programs that promote social and diversity through music in programs such as Brass ‘El Sistema’ at Ravinia, Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative. He has been selected as a member and part of the Fellowship program with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago this year. He performs recitals and as guests in orchestras around Illinois and Michigan.
