Cheick Hamala Diabate, a griot (musical historian) from one of Africa’s most celebrated musical families, will be on campus on Nov. 9 and 10 as part of IWU’s African Culture Week.  On Friday the 9th at 11 AM in Presser 258, he’ll give a presentation on his music, his instrument (the ngoni, an ancestor of the banjo) and the role of the griot in Mali.  All music students and faculty are welcome.  On the 10th, Mr. Diabate and his band are the featured performers in an evening of free African food and music.  That event begins at 5:30 in the Main Lounge of the Memorial Center.
