One of the School of Music’s newest faculty members, John Orfe, will be the featured artist for the November 1st New Music Cafe concert.  Two of Professor Orfe’s compositions are on the program, along with his piano transcription of a movement from Shostakovich’s eighth symphony.  Other music includes four movements from Matachin Dances by Peter Garland, a composition inspired by a hybrid Native American/European dance tradition; selections from Játékok (Games), a collection of piano duets by noted Hungarian composer György Kurtág; and John Cage’s revolutionary 4’33”.  Student violinists Daria Dodonova and Sam Biemer, along with a number of School of Music faculty and staff members, are among the performers.  The concert is at 8 PM in Westbrook.
