{"id":351,"date":"2012-10-22T11:42:28","date_gmt":"2012-10-22T16:42:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/?p=351"},"modified":"2012-10-22T11:59:06","modified_gmt":"2012-10-22T16:59:06","slug":"open-access-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/open-access-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy Open Access Week!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week celebrates Open Access (OA), a global movement to ensure that research is available to anyone, anywhere, anytime. \u00a0Peter Suber, OA rock star, defines it as &#8220;digital, online, free of charge, and free of most copyright and licensing restrictions.&#8221; (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.earlham.edu\/~peters\/fos\/overview.htm\" target=\"_blank\">OA Overview<\/a><\/em>) \u00a0We support OA at IWU in a few different ways: \u00a0first, by educating faculty, staff and students about their rights to share their work; second, by developing and maintaining <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalcommons.iwu.edu\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Digital Commons @ IWU<\/em><\/a>, our online archive of scholarship and creative activity; third, by supporting and hosting IWU&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalcommons.iwu.edu\/peer_review_list.html\" target=\"_blank\">undergraduate journals<\/a>; and fourth, with memberships in the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arl.org\/sparc\/\" target=\"_blank\">SPARC<\/a>) and the Alliance for Taxpayer Access (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.taxpayeraccess.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">ATA<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about Open Access and its core components, please check out the newly published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plos.org\/about\/open-access\/howopenisit\/\" target=\"_blank\">HowOpenIsIt? brochure<\/a>, developed by the Public Library of Science (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.plos.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">PLoS<\/a>), SPARC, and the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (<a href=\"http:\/\/oaspa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">OASPA<\/a>).
