{"id":2364,"date":"2018-03-22T13:42:43","date_gmt":"2018-03-22T18:42:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/?p=2364"},"modified":"2018-03-22T13:42:43","modified_gmt":"2018-03-22T18:42:43","slug":"making-a-peep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/making-a-peep\/","title":{"rendered":"Making a Peep"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday, The Ames Library had the pleasure of hosting and judging the annual Peeps diorama contest, which is sponsored by the Greek and Roman Studies program at Illinois Wesleyan.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>The winning entry, by seniors Ania Bui and Joi Stack, showed the labyrinth through which Theseus traveled to slay the Minotaur, a menacing looking Peep chick, complete with horns.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>\u201cThe horns are brilliant,\u201d said Karen Schmidt, professor and librarian, who judged the competition along with Meg Miner, university archivist and special collections librarian.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>Miner liked the attention to detail in many of the entries, such as mazes and a group of Greek gods with various accessories.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>One diorama depicted Achilles dragging the body of Hector behind a chariot pulled by two Peep chicks that had been transformed into horses.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>\u201cWhat this is really is outreach,\u201d said Sultan. \u201cWe want to get students at our campus to know the Greek and Roman studies program is here and also see Classical mythology is influential even today. They all have lessons.
