The thread (a series of connected tweets for the Twitter uninitiated) has become an evolving photo essay of women activists standing up to walls of militarized riot police and mobs of angry bigots. The photos feature\u00a0subjects like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2016\/may\/04\/woman-defied-neo-nazis-sweden-tess-asplund-viral-photograph\">Tess Asplund<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/national\/woman-stunning-baton-rouge-protest-photo-nurse-mother-article-1.2706944\">Leshia Evans<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2017\/apr\/09\/birmingham-woman-standing-in-defiance-of-edl-protester-goes-viral\">Saffiyah Khan<\/a>, and historical inspirations like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theroot.com\/the-defiant-one-why-you-should-know-civil-rights-icon-1790860453\">Gloria Richardson<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/life-and-style\/people\/bernadette-mcaliskey-i-am-astounded-i-survived-i-made-mad-decisions-1.2798293\">Bernadette Devlin<\/a>. Many of the subjects are unknown or unnamed, but no less iconic.
