{"id":172,"date":"2010-01-06T12:41:46","date_gmt":"2010-01-06T17:41:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/?p=170"},"modified":"2010-01-06T12:41:46","modified_gmt":"2010-01-06T17:41:46","slug":"think-green","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/think-green\/","title":{"rendered":"Think GREEN!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Free printing is an attractive benefit\u00a0for Ames Library patrons but please consider some environmentally friendly steps you can take to help reduce paper usage on campus AND in the library: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iwu.edu\/library\/support\/print_smart.shtml\">http:\/\/www.iwu.edu\/library\/support\/print_smart.shtml<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Conscious printing is one way we can all help lessen our impact on the environment. Library staff\u00a0have also\u00a0taken the following\u00a0steps\u00a0to decrease\u00a0The Ames Library&#8217;s\u00a0environmental footprint:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Printing &amp; Mailing Services Office replaced our\u00a0old Xerox machines with 7 Canon\/Xerox multifuctional devices which offer a scan-to-email function in addition to printing traditional photocopies. All staff know how to use these features and are willing to train anyone interested in them! The power saving mode is also activated on these machines and they have been set to print and copy at their lowest ink-use settings.<\/li>\n<li>All printers in The Ames Library\u00a0default\u00a0to double-sided mode with the toner at the lowest possible setting. We purchase recycled\u00a0paper\u00a0made of\u00a030% post-consumer fiber from the campus Printing &amp; Mailing Services Office and our building custodians from Physical Plant recycle all paper that makes it into the appropriate containers.<\/li>\n<li>Public computer\u00a0monitors go to power saving mode after 15 minutes of inactivity.<\/li>\n<li>All public Laser printers in the building also utilize power management features, and a\u00a0power saving mode is enabled after 30 minutes of inactivity.<\/li>\n<li>Excess black is cropped out\u00a0when scanning documents for electronic reserves. Extra black requires unnecessary amounts of toner\/ink if electronic reserves resources are printed\u00a0out.
