{"id":1480,"date":"2015-11-04T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-11-04T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/?p=1480"},"modified":"2015-11-02T08:41:11","modified_gmt":"2015-11-02T14:41:11","slug":"international-film-series-the-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/international-film-series-the-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo\/","title":{"rendered":"International Film Series: &#8220;The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thursday, 5 November, 7pm &#8211;\u00a0<strong>International Film Series: &#8220;The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo&#8221;<\/strong>\u2013 (2009, Sweden) Presented by Visiting Assistant Professor of German Adam Woodis. <em>Due to copyright restrictions, this event is free and open to the IWU community only.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>You may have seen the 2011 Hollywood version of\u00a0<em>The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo<\/em>, but did you know it was based on a series of books written by a Swedish journalist, and that it was first published on screen in 2009?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/files\/2015\/11\/lisbeth.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1481\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/files\/2015\/11\/lisbeth-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"lisbeth\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/files\/2015\/11\/lisbeth-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/files\/2015\/11\/lisbeth-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>From the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2011\/12\/13\/girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo_n_1146297.html\">Huffington Post<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>For the millions of fans who love the goth feminist hacker Lisbeth Salander and have been waiting for David Fincher&#8217;s new version of the Stieg Larsson novel to hit the theaters on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo-early-opening-272836\" target=\"_hplink\">December 20<\/a>, it might not even matter how good the film is so long as it hews closely enough to the beloved book.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, most of the early reviews have been widely praiseful of the new take, and seem especially taken with both Fincher&#8217;s meticulous direction and Rooney Mara&#8217;s fierce turn as the title character.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a bleak but mesmerizing piece of filmmaking; it offers a glancing, chilled view of a world in which brief moments of loyalty flicker between repeated acts of betrayal,&#8221; David Denby of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/arts\/critics\/cinema\/2011\/12\/12\/111212crci_cinema_denby#ixzz1gRSukiNm\" target=\"_hplink\">New Yorker<\/a> wrote in his <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/movies\/2011\/12\/dragon-tattoos-scott-rudin-vs-david-denby-who-has-the-high-moral-ground.html\" target=\"_hplink\">controversially early review<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Enthusiasts who&#8217;ve already seen the 2009 Swedish version may be wondering how Fincher&#8217;s new film differs from the original.
