{"id":1286,"date":"2015-04-20T08:05:54","date_gmt":"2015-04-20T13:05:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/?p=1286"},"modified":"2015-04-20T08:06:10","modified_gmt":"2015-04-20T13:06:10","slug":"1286","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/1286\/","title":{"rendered":"Final Monday of Spring Semester!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ames Library&#8217;s very own Karen Schmidt has been named the 2015 Multicultural Leadership Program Service Award Recipient! <a href=\"http:\/\/public.bn-mclp.org\/2015-mclp-community-service-award-recipient-karen-schmidt\/\">From the announcement<\/a>: &#8220;You can often find this year\u2019s MCLP Community Service Award recipient pedaling a bicycle around low-income neighborhoods, laden with an overflowing book box.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/files\/2015\/04\/Karen-fall-2008.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1287\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/library\/files\/2015\/04\/Karen-fall-2008.jpg\" alt=\"Karen, fall 2008\" width=\"140\" height=\"193\" \/><\/a>That determined and personal effort exemplifies Karen Schmidt, who has helped initiate and maintain numerous community projects\u2014including the Book Bike Program that brings free books into the homes of local residents. Karen gives her voice, time, leadership, and financial support to a myriad of causes\u2014locally and on a state and national level.<\/p>\n<p>Karen serves as alderman and Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Bloomington. Professionally, as Illinois Wesleyan University Librarian, Karen is active in state and national library associations, strengthening campus ties between technology and library services.
