{"id":7079,"date":"2026-08-06T08:53:45","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T13:53:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/johnupdikesociety\/?p=7079"},"modified":"2026-08-06T09:00:59","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T14:00:59","slug":"indian-scholar-shares-updike-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/johnupdikesociety\/2026\/08\/06\/indian-scholar-shares-updike-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"Indian scholar shares Updike photos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Charter John Updike Society member Pradipta Sengupta passed along three photos from Prof. Sukhbir Singh, one of the senior professors of American literature in India who retired from Osmania University some ten years ago.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He had taken interviews with Updike and Saul Bellow, and those interviews were published in the <em>SPAN<\/em> [a U.S. Embassy New Delhi publication]. So far as I can recall, the Updike interview was published around September\/October 1997. Prof. Singh has sent me these three photos of John Updike taken in the Beverly Farms house during this interview (possibly taken in 1995). Updike had taken him on a tour of his house and its surroundings, bordering on the Massachusetts Bay.
