A recent case in point is Martin Jones, whose musings on <a href=\"https:\/\/martinjoneswriter.com\/2024\/03\/24\/rabbit-run-by-john-updike-walk-dont-run\/\">&#8220;Rabbit Run by John Updike\u2014Walk Don&#8217;t Run&#8221;<\/a> was published as an entry on his blog, <em>Writing And So On<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-6390\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/johnupdikesociety\/files\/2024\/05\/Screen-Shot-2024-05-10-at-8.27.11-AM-260x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/johnupdikesociety\/files\/2024\/05\/Screen-Shot-2024-05-10-at-8.27.11-AM-260x300.png 260w, https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/johnupdikesociety\/files\/2024\/05\/Screen-Shot-2024-05-10-at-8.27.11-AM.png 303w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 260px) 100vw, 260px\" \/>&#8220;We float above events, seeing them from the perspective of different characters, sometimes switching viewpoint over the space of a paragraph,&#8221; Jones wrote. &#8220;<em>Rabbit, Run<\/em> expresses a desire to transcend ordinary life, while also suggesting\u2014in the manner of Ecclesiastes\u2014that the only meaningful escape available to us lies in ordinary things. In the end, <em>Rabbit, Run<\/em> does not promise any kind of silly nirvana, but it does suggest a more liberating and interesting way of looking at the non-nirvana in which we spend our days.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John Updike&#8217;s works continue to resonate with today&#8217;s writers.
