I actually own most of his books, but<\/p>\n<p>seeing him here on these public shelves gives me some sense<\/p>\n<p>he&#8217;s still doing well\u2014not breathing, obviously, but circulating.<\/p>\n<p>The once we met, inscribing my book, he wrote <em>For Dan, Best Wishes<\/em><\/p>\n<p>while saying, and I quote, &#8220;Another Dan\u2014more Dans than you can<\/p>\n<p>shake a stick at.&#8221; His wild eyebrows were, if you can imagine,<\/p>\n<p>even wilder in person. I think of this whenever my wife insists<\/p>\n<p>I sit still for a trimming.
