“This is part of the Kula Art Project, which consists of a return to the importance of relics and the biography of ordinary things.”
Some of the things are actually quite extraordinary, such as a royalty statement from Knopf showing domestic and foreign sales for Rabbit, Run. Or a hotel bill detailing what room the Updikes stayed in.
Thanks for the post for the The Other John Updike Archive. My writing is merely anecdotal and hopefully somewhat entertaining. The true worth of this project is in the release of more of John Updike’s previously unreleased material. Thousands of photographs taken by JU, and unpublished writing cannot at this time be released unless I am given expressed consent from his estate. You can imagine the cultural magnitude of this treasure trove. It is currently protected at a climate controlled secure location. For now, I can only release more ephemera.
