What great new methodology or technology did you learn that will help you make history come alive?

    So, I know I’m not a student, but I’ve been working with ArcGIS to map ancient colonies, roads, and battles. I find that, if you can look at the locations and relationships of things over time, you can see interesting patterns of development that help in figuring out the motivations of the Roman government and the individuals involved in war and colonizing Italy. I’ve been trying to think of ways to get students involved in this project or using this software on their own. Has anyone else learned some similar software or analysis method for one of their classes, history or otherwise?
