WRITING PROMPT:

International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. International education is hailed as a life-changing and eye-opening experience stimulating personal growth and expanding perspectives.  While true, it’s simultaneously quite challenging to immerse oneself in a country and culture so vastly different from one’s own. We often focus on the benefits and positive outcomes of these experiences. Yet the real education can stem from the less pleasant, awkward moments, the social mistakes made in one’s attempts to assimilate.

Describe your early experience in the country and the obstacles you encountered personally, inter-personally, and/or academically. What were they and how did you manage those~how did that impact your view of/beliefs about the country, the people you met and/or yourself?
