Spring break is coming up and even though the weather here in Illinois does not look too promising it is still SPRING BREAK! And you should make the most out of it. Some of you made travel plans to go out of state but there are some of you who are staying in the area. Well, do not be discouraged! There are fun things for you to do and we are here to help. Lets start with BloNo area:
BCPA (600 N East st, Bloomington IL) offers several concerts you might find interesting:
- March 10, 7:30 pm, Black Violin is performing for BloNo audience, tickets are on sale from $23. Click here to watch their video on Youtube
- March 12, 2 pm, Artists Lounge Live: I gotta Right to Sing the Blues, a Salute to Ella, Judy and Patsy. Here is their website http://artistsloungelive.com/. Tickets are $20 and up
- March 16, 7:30 pm The Young Irelanders, dance group. Student tickets are $10
Bloomington High School (1202 E Locust st, Bloomington IL) presents Fiddler on the Roof musical. Performance dates are March 9 through March 11. Time: 7 – 9:30 pm. Student tickets are $5
St. Patrick’s Parade is scheduled on March, 11, 1-3 pm in Uptown Normal. Do not forget to wear your green!
Pepsi Ice Center (201 S Roosevelt ave, Bloomington IL) celebrates St. Patrick’s Day as well! Come skate to Irish tunes, enjoy yummy treats, wear green to receive a discounted admission. March 17, 7:30-9 pm. Admission is $6, Skate rental is $2.
Upper Limits is a local climbing place, and now you can get a discounted pass through Groupon! Get it while the deal is on.
McLean County Arts Center presents Spring Bloom Fine Arts Festival. Come to see the work of more than 70 artists and enjoy live music at the Brown Ballroom (corner of W College ave and N University street, Normal IL), ISU on March 18, 10 am – 4 pm.
For those of you who want to focus more on wellness and take care of yourselves during this time of the year/month – come to Shirk Center and participate in wellness classes for free. Check out their classes here It indicates that classes are for faculty and staff only but everyone is welcome to attend. There are pool, track and fitness center for you to use as well.
Also Advocate BroMenn offers free classes for the months of March. “Let’s move for a Better World” is an initiative promoted by BroMenn in partnership with Technogym. Starting March 13 and runs through March 31, Monday through Friday, 5-10 am. Address: 1111 Trinity Lane, Bloomington IL.
There are places to go and visit in Peoria, IL. You still have time to catch an awesome exhibition at the Riverfront Museum called Titanic. Its runs through March 12. Click here to find out more. Explore Peoria and check out this calendar for more ideas.
We would suggest going to a lake or a place like Starved Rock but we are afraid it is not yet the time for outside hikes and picnics, not next week at least. In case you decide to be adventurous during spring break there are some ideas for you: Sugar Grove, Lake Bloomington, Evergreen Lake, Moraine View Park, Starved Rock, Matthiessen Park.
There are parks in BloNo area you can go and enjoy some outside time: Ewing Park and Ewing Mansion, Constitution trail will bring to Uptown Normal, Miller Park and Zoo (and yes, Zoo is lovely, don’t think you are too old for a zoo:), McGraw Park is also nice to visit.
You could take a day trip to Chicago, go by car or by train (beware that the very last train leaves Chicago at 7 pm and you have to be at the station no later than 6:30 pm.) There are some nice places to visit: Willis Tower, Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, Planetarium, Navy Pier, Art Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Chicago Visitor’s center (FREE).
