While the boat continued downriver, I pedalled through vineyards and small towns. The trail was mostly paved, flat, with some stops geared to serving bikers (wine? beer?).\u00a0 While we went through in about 3 hours, Richard I&#8211;the Lionhearted&#8211;spent four months there, being held for ransom on his return from the third crusade.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5054\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5054\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/factrack\/files\/2009\/08\/DSC05442.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5054 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/factrack\/files\/2009\/08\/DSC05442-150x133.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"133\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5054\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Roman ruins<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/factrack\/files\/2009\/08\/viennaschoenbrunn.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5049 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/factrack\/files\/2009\/08\/viennaschoenbrunn-150x133.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"176\" height=\"156\" \/><\/a>Vienna.\u00a0 Once capital of an empire, now capital of a much smaller country.\u00a0 Still, it had some of the grandeur buildings of empire: Schoenbrunn was one example.
