in\u00a0 Johore.\u00a0 What I remember most about the palace was his use of elephant legs as waste baskets and umbrella holders.\u00a0 But we did get a stamp for Malaysia in our passports, which was an added benefit.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4675\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4675\" style=\"width: 194px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/factrack\/files\/1999\/05\/IMG00124-rotated.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4675 \" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/factrack\/files\/1999\/05\/IMG00124-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"194\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4675\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Li was our China guide twice<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p data-wp-editing=\"1\">The other &#8220;different&#8221; And we had time to eat.\u00a0 In those days, I built the meals into the trip, realizing hygiene was not always a consideration, especially in China.\u00a0 Later, when I realized students preferred Mickey Ds to dim sum, I set one banquet per city&#8211;so I could e<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9336 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/factrack\/files\/1999\/05\/busvis11-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/factrack\/files\/1999\/05\/busvis11-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/factrack\/files\/1999\/05\/busvis11-684x1024.jpg 684w, https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/factrack\/files\/1999\/05\/busvis11-768x1150.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/factrack\/files\/1999\/05\/busvis11-1026x1536.jpg 1026w, https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/factrack\/files\/1999\/05\/busvis11-1368x2048.jpg 1368w, https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/factrack\/files\/1999\/05\/busvis11-1200x1797.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/factrack\/files\/1999\/05\/busvis11-scaled.jpg 1710w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 85vw, 200px\" \/>at real Chinese instead of watered down French Fries.<\/p>\n<p>But not before we had snake wine.\u00a0 I insisted on having the reptile brought to the table where the venturesome sat, and prepared for us&#8211;bile in alcohol, among other things.
