So, I was originally going to do the two essays (not going to now, but that’s besides the point) and I was looking at some of the poetry on the list for the essay question about redefining poetry. One in particular: “Kick the Heart.” I could totally see it being preformed as slam (like ours where we just read already created poems). The main part for slam poetry is repetition of some kind, to keep a beat of the poem. Kick the Heart does that in an interesting way. While the poem has no stanza breaks, I can see it being rewritten with some inserted. Mainly, right before “Kick the ____” parts. That repetition moves the poem, and I believe that a moving poem makes slam poetry.
Also, I don’t know about any of you, but using “Night of the Living, Night of the Dead” as slam would be interesting and I kind of want to see that done.
