The first female graduate of IWU was Hannah I. Shur, who received her diploma in 1872. She was the 74th student to receive a diploma from the University.

Dear Tommy,
All this football coverage for bowl season and the NFL playoffs has reminded me of something one of my friends said about us beating Illinois in football way back when. Is that true?

‘Tis true. We beat the Illini 16-0 in their first-ever football game. What’s more, in our first season of organized football in 1887, we beat ISU twice and our colors were navy blue and gray at the time.
