Rob Force ’88

Rob leads the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s rule of law department in Podgorica, Montenegro, providing strategic advice and programming on matters such as judicial reform and human rights. Rob holds a law degree from Pepperdine and a master’s in international public policy from Johns Hopkins University. He previously served as a senior rule of law advisor in Serbia.

Dawn Upshaw ’82

Winter Morning Walks, an album by composer Maria Schneider featuring soprano Dawn Upshaw, was recognized at the 2014 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Dawn won Best Classical Vocal Solo for her work on the album, which won three Grammys. The jazz-inflected recording features the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Australian Chamber Orchestra. A five-time Grammy winner, Dawn is a fellow in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She was also named a MacArthur Foundation Fellow.

John “JD” Olson ’84

John was named general counsel and corporate secretary of Sadara Chemical Company. A $20 billion joint venture developed by The Dow Chemical Company and the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, Sadara was formed in 2011 and will build and operate a world-scale chemicals complex in Jubail Industrial City. JD has been with Dow for 24 years and worked on the Sadara project since 2009. He and his wife Carla Olson ’83 relocated to Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. They have two daughters, including Samantha ’14.

IWU Board of Trustees

At Illinois Wesleyan University’s final 2013-14 Board of Trustees meeting on May 16,  the following current officers were re-elected to serve for the coming 2014-15 academic year.

Those members re-elected include:  Richard S. Ames, Thomas C. McKinney, Jr. ’76, Phyllis Barker ’73, Thomas L. Brown ’79, John S. Esch ’79, Robert E. Field ’67, Steven A. Ring ’79, Ronald L. Ruecker ’66, James A. Shirk and Timothy J. Szerlong ’74.

Board of Trustees officers that were re-elected for the 2014-15 academic year include:  George A. Vinyard ’71, chair; Herbert A. Getz ’77, vice chair; Willie G. Brown, vice chair; Thomas L. Brown ’79, vice chair; Jean M. Baird ’80, secretary; and Robert E. Field ’67, treasurer.

Mark H. Ohlendorf ’82

Mark Ohlendorf 1982

Mark has been named a new member on the IWU Board of Trustees! He received a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Illinois Wesleyan in 1982. He has over 25 years of experience in the health care and long-term care industries and currently serves as co-president and chief financial officer of Brookdale Senior Living, the nation’s largest owner and operator of senior living communities throughout the United States and a leading national provider of senior-related services. Previously he served in several executive management positions at Alterra: CEO and president, chief financial officer and senior vice president. While a student at Illinois Wesleyan, he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and participated on the men’s golf team.
