Craig Altman ’86
Craig Altman ’86 has moved himself and the company he founded, Tradition Software, to the western suburbs of Chicago the first week in April after raising a family near Sacramento, CA for 25 years. Family and friends called him back home. His son Randall Palmer Altman is a U.S. Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton in CA. His daughter Lauren Altman is off to college at the University of Nevada to study Nursing. His beautiful mother is eighty-one (81) now and could use my driving assistance after his father passed away last year. Craig is enjoying reconnecting more regularly in person with several IWU classmates in the Chicago area. Eric Gardner ’89
Eric Gardner’s book _Black Print Unbound: The Christian Recorder, African American Literature, and Periodical Culture_ (Oxford UP 2015) has been named the winner of the 2017 Research Society for American Periodicals Book Prize, recognizing it as the best scholarly book published in 2015 and 2016 on American periodicals.
The award will be formally presented at the American Literature Association Annual Conference later this month. The prize committee said that _Black Print Unbound_ offers “magisterial vision and imaginative force that will set new standards for periodical scholarship.” The book, which was drafted with the support of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities, is one of the first full-length studies of an early Black newspaper.
