Homecoming 2017 remembering Captain Ryan A. Beaupre ’95

As IWU celebrates Titans Around the World at Homecoming this weekend, we will also honor our alumni who served worldwide as veterans and first-responders, including Captain Ryan A. Beaupre ’95. We will remember Ryan and all veterans and first-responders who have given their lives in the service of others and our country. Presenting the colors will be American Legion Color Guard Post 635 Normal and Post 56 from Bloomington. The ceremony will take place this Saturday, October 14th at 12:45 p.m., prior to the Homecoming Football game at Tucci Stadium and will include the National Anthem sung by Wayne Messmer ’72. Classmates and friends can view the ceremony on streaming video live at https://portal.stretchinter net.com/iwu/

Homecoming 2017 is just around the corner!

In less than two weeks, Titans will descend upon the IWU campus to celebrate Homecoming 2017! While counting down the days until we gather at our alma mater, let’s reminisce about our fondest IWU memories!

My favorite memories involve late nights spent on deadline in the Argus office with the dedicated newspaper staff, ensuring we covered the latest news on campus. Would anyone like to share their favorite IWU memories? Comment below.

If you are still finalizing your Homecoming itinerary, be sure to make a stop at the International RSO Fair featuring IWU’s multicultural registered student organizations, and enjoy activities and musical performances. Join in the fun on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Hansen Student Center, Center Court, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A light lunch will be provided; please register either online or by phone by Oct. 8.

Class of 1986 – Ron Ekstrand

Ron Ekstrand, Class of 1986, was recently named the Interim CEO for the national office of Easterseals located in Chicago. After eight years of working at an affiliate in Missouri as the President and COO of Easterseals Midwest, Ekstrand moved to Chicago and joined the national office team in March 2016. Easterseals is the largest provider of disability services in the country and help people with disabilities live, learn, work and play in their communities.

It will be on Saturday (10/14) at the Hansen Student Center, Center Court from 11 am – 1 pm. Come learn more about our multicultural registered student organizations and enjoy activities and musical performances. Sharon Sieberns Stanford ’80

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) announced the recipients of its 2017 Leadership and Service Awards who will be honored on October 18, 2017 at a ceremony during World Standards Week in Washington DC. Sharon Sieberns Stanford ’80, director, department of standards administration, American Dental Association (ADA), will receive the Howard Coonley Medal, which recognizes an executive who has benefited the national economy through voluntary standardization and conformity assessment and has given outstanding support to standardization as a management tool.

Julie Holliday ’88

Julie Holliday ’88 recently started a senior move management company called Beautiful Life Senior Relocation Services. This service helps seniors with a personalized plan and assistance as they downsize into a new home. The goal is to bring peace of mind and less stress to a very challenging situation by partnering with the senior and their family to create a smooth transition. She is a proud member of the National Association of Senior Move Managers.

Randy Sharer ’81

Somewhere amidst all that Randy Sharer ’81 does as a sports writer for The Pantagraph, he found time to write the biography of Craig Virgin, an Illinois native who became a two-time world cross country champion and three-time Olympian. 

The 322-page book, titled “Virgin Territory: The Story of Craig Virgin, America’s Renaissance Runner” is available now in hardcover, softcover and e-book. 

It took a while, eight years in fact, but the finished product is, according to an article by Randy Kindred, a “testament to organization, dedication, time management and a deep-rooted love for running.”

IWU Homecoming 2017!

To all IWU Alumni,
Homecoming is right around the corner!  It’s a wonderful time to reminisce and reconnect with long lost friends and classmates.  Come on back to Bloomington and enjoy a visit full of festivities and all the wonderful colors of the fall at IWU.
