Our son, Ross, graduated with the IWU Class of 2013 on May 5, 2013. He was a member of the first class to receive his diploma on the Glenn and Rozanne P. Kemp Commencement Plaza in front of the State Farm Hall. Ross graduated Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Beta Kappa, and Summa Cum Laude with a double major, Philosophy and Psychology. Ross is now attending the University of Illinois College of Law. His mother, Jody L. Meents Munsterman, graduated in 1982 from IWU as an Elementary Education major. She has been a career teacher at Crescent City Grade School, teaching fifth grade, in Crescent City, Illinois. Our son, Ryan, is a Senior at IWU, Class of 2014. Jody is married to Larry Munsterman, of rural Onarga, Illinois.

I was named recipient of the 2013 California Hospital Association’s “Person of the Year” award, the “Simanek Distinguished Service Award.” The honor resulted from my research demonstrating the effectiveness of a new model for emergency psychiatric care, which would reduce delays by 80% and decrease hospitalizations by 75%, all while improving access to high-quality care and saving an average of thousands of dollars per patient. The original research article was endorsed by the New England Journal of Medicine and published in the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine.
