Congratulations to Unit 5’s Susy Marcum for being selected as the 2020 School Nurse of the Year by the Illinois Association of School Nurses. Susy embodies the qualities and characteristics of a School Nurse who is engaged in the community, tirelessly advocating for the school nurses in Unit 5, the students, and their families.
A nurse in Unit 5 for 25 years, Susy currently works at Grove Elementary and Field Special Services. She is also the Curriculum Chair for the Nursing Department. Please join us in celebrating Susy on winning this well-deserved award.
At Homecoming 2019 the Loyalty Award was presented to Jean (Sullivan) Baird ’80 for her service to Illinois Wesleyan. Jean was featured in the inset of page 24 of the IWU Magazine that can be found here. Kevin Long ’80 passed away on Sunday, November 24.
Kevin served Textbook Coordinator in IWU’s Bookstore starting in August 2002, then transferred to Campus Safety in July 2019. He is survived by three children, two grandchildren and three brothers. A celebration of life service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday, December 6, at Calvert-Johnson & Musselman Memorial Home in Lexington, with visitation from 9 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday at the memorial home. Prairie Fire Theatre toured How To Be a Superhero, its annual opera for children, in the Bloomington-Normal area. Directed by Rhys Lovell ’87, written by Nancy Steele Brokaw ’71, and musical direction by Charlie Berggren ’10.

Emeritus Associate Professor of Economics Robert (Bob) Leekley passed away on Tuesday, Jan.1. Prof. Leekley started teaching at Illinois Wesleyan in 1974, and from his first year to his 44th, his commitment to IWU and our students remained unchanged. His positive impact on generations of students and colleagues will not be forgotten. Read an obituary. A service will be held in the IWU Evelyn Chapel from 11-12 on Wednesday, January 9th.
